SALINA, Kan. (KWCH) - The Salina Fire Department is urging people to stay off the log debris that’s accumulated in the Smoky Hill River at Bill Burke Park. Recent storms and flash flooding created the log jam that looks like the work of a busy group of beavers. “We frequent the river quite a bit and we’ve never seen anything to this magnitude of log jamming,” said Dave Dyke who was among those who came out to the river to see the unique aftermath of recent storms.

MCPHERSON, Kan. (KWCH) - A McPherson family faces an extensive cleanup and repair project after a tree crashed through the roof and a bedroom ceiling. Trevor Wilson, who owns the home in which his adult son and his son’s girlfriend live, recalled an unexpected phone call after his son woke up from a dead sleep with rain pouring on his head. “I heard him crying in the background and his words were, ‘I have a limb in my ceiling,’” Wilson said.

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - The City of Hutchinson is making a rare move to take down traffic lights instead of adding them. Officials said removing lights at two intersections, 4th Avenue and Washington, and Avenue A and Washington, is expected to save them more than $50,000 in long-term costs. According to Hutchinson Public Works Director Cecil Weible, the signals are no longer needed due to decreased traffic flow.
