McPherson, Kan. (KWCH) - Severe storms tore through parts of Kansas Wednesday night, slamming parts of central and south-central Kansas. McPherson and Sedgwick were among the communities hardest hit by storms that packed a punch with wind 70-80 mph wind gusts. In McPherson, the winds were strong enough to uproot trees, knocking down limbs and powerlines and even ripping roofs off of buildings.

Salina is one of the communities involved, launching its “Love, Kansas” campaign by having residents write letters about what they love about living in the state.

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - Update: The KBI identified the person killed as 25-year-old Jesse D. Wray of Salina. The KBI said that when Salina police officers arrived, they spoke with the homeowner, who reported that 44-year-old Larry J. Wray of Salina was in the detached garage adjacent to the home. Officers entered the garage and arrested Larry Wray for an outstanding warrant.
