A 52-year-old Kansas man died Sunday in a rollover crash that threw him out of his truck, which landed on top of him. Kansas Highway Patrol crash logs identified the victim as Sean Brookstore of Elkhart, Kansas. The crash was reported at 7:53 a.m. in rural Morton County. Brookstore was eastbound on Morton County Road F in a 2001 Dodge Ram, the KHP said.

A Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office detention deputy was sent to the hospital Monday evening with serious burns after an inmate allegedly threw scalding hot water at them, SCSO public information officer Branden Stitt said. The incident was reported at 7:20 p.m. inside the Sedgwick County Jail. “The deputy sustained serious burns and was transported by Sedgwick County EMS to a local hospital for treatment,” Stitt said.

A brawl broke out in a Sedgwick County courtroom Tuesday during the sentencing of the 19-year-old Wichita man who opened fire at Towne East Square in 2022, killing a 14-year-old. Te’Bryis Robinson was sentenced to 21 years in prison after pleading no contest last year to second-degree murder, attempted second-degree murder and aggravated battery in connection with the killing of TrenJ’vious Hutton. Robinson was a juvenile when the shooting occurred, but prosecutors tried him as an adult.

A former Kansas sheriff’s office deputy was stripped of his law enforcement certification after being in a relationship with a former jail inmate and lying about it to his superiors. Richard Sandlin worked for the Saline County Sheriff’s Office from Dec. 25, 2023 to Aug. 12, 2024, according to a summary order of revocation from the Kansas Commission on Peace Officers’ Standards and Training that was made public this month.

A Wichita man was released from jail, robbed a Walgreens and was arrested and booked into jail again — all on the same day, Newton police said. Police were called at 11:15 a.m. Sunday to an armed robbery at a Newton Walgreens at 1300 N. Main St.. Store employees told officers that a man came in and said he had a gun. He fled south with an unknown amount of cash, the NPD said in a Sunday social media post. Officers later noticed a man “acting suspiciously” several blocks away from the store.
