Hours before the ceremony, a group of descendants of Black people the school enslaved backed out, citing concerns that the yearslong reconciliation process ultimately felt too symbolic. “We had no choice but to not participate in this today,” said Robin Proudie, executive director and founder of Descendants of the St. Louis University Enslaved, at a briefing Wednesday.

ST. LOUIS — Providers across Missouri are resuming abortion services, months after voters approved a measure to enshrine reproductive rights in the state constitution. Planned Parenthood’s Midtown location in Kansas City, Missouri, opened up its doors on Feb. 15 to help its first abortion patient — a Missouri resident who’d planned to travel to Kansas to seek care. They were able to get medical treatment closer to home instead.
