COLUMBUS, Miss. (WTVA) - The Columbus Police Department continues to investigate an after-prom shooting. The shooting happened on Saturday night, April 19 at the Columbus Fairgrounds. Police Chief Joseph Daughtry said two groups of people got into an argument about music and exchanged gunfire in the parking lot. Fortunately, police reported no injuries, but the gunfire struck three vehicles. Police announced no arrests yet.

Patients' information breached at Starkville hospital

STARKVILLE, Miss. (WTVA) - OCH Regional Medical Center in Starkville announced a data breach almost two years after it happened. The breach happened on Sept. 6, 2023, the hospital announced on Friday, April 18. Someone gained access to approximately 67,000 files containing patient records, names, Social Security numbers and more personal information. WTVA asked the hospital why it took so long to alert the public.

Today, a cold front is moving through our area, bringing scattered showers and thunderstorms. There is a level 1 severe weather risk for part of our area. The primary impacts from stronger storms may include small hail and strong winds. Over the next few days, we anticipate continued unsettled weather as low-pressure systems and lingering fronts pass through. This will bring additional chances of showers and thunderstorms.

We saw variable cloudiness as the rule across our area on our Easter Sunday, we also did see some isolated showers. All of the severe weather, as expected stayed well to the west of our area. We saw most of the high temperatures across our area reach well into the 80s. We saw most of the heat index values across our area top off well into the 80s to lower 90s. All of this weather was due to our area being well to the east of a major frontal system.
Easter Sunday stays warm and dry before rain chances pick back up through the week

The start to our Easter Weekend has been a very enjoyable forecast. Temperatures topped out in the low to mid 80s and despite the cloud cover, our skies have stayed dry all day long. This is a result of high pressure lingering over our area. Expect these conditions to continue overnight as that high pressure system isn't going anywhere. Easter Sunday will keep those calmer conditions going which will be perfect for heading to church and even afternoon egg hunts.
High pressure will still keep weather under control for most of our weekend

On our Good Friday we saw some variably cloudy to mostly sunny skies as the rule. Most of our high temperatures were a bit above the normal for this time of year. On the average most of the highs in our area topped off in the middle 80s. While the heat index topped off in the middle 80s to lower 90s across the area. We continued to see the dominance of high pressure. We will continue to see the dominance of high pressure in our area for our Holy Saturday and Easter Sunday.
