TARRYTOWN — Some 600 people filled an enormous ballroom at the Westchester Marriot on Friday, April 11, to celebrate the 75th birthday of Volunteer New York and to applaud the inspiring winners of this year's Volunteer Spirit Awards. Volunteer New York was founded in 1950 by a few women who opened a small office in White Plains, hoping to find volunteer opportunities for local folks.

New York State will not comply with the Trump administration's request to certify that schools do not have DEI programs. The Trump administration threatened to withhold federal funding from states that do not comply, citing a violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. NY Education Department Counsel Daniel Morton Bentley responded the Trump administration does not have the authority to change the terms of federal funding without an administrative process.
