Members of a Holyrood committee have been on a fact finding mission to the Cairngorms National Park. MSPs from the Scottish Parliament’s Rural Affairs and Islands Committee have visited three estates in the strath and held a community engagement event to further their scrutiny of the Natural Environment (Scotland) Bill. The visit began in Grantown on Sunday evening (May 11) with a community engagement event held in the offices of the Cairngorms National Park Authority.

It was of special interest to "Strathy" readers that the only Scot mentioned was Sir Tommy Macpherson, a member of a well known and distinguished Newtonmore family.

Plans have been lodged to realign 400 metres of the River Tromie near to Kingussie. The application has been lodged by RSPB Scotland for Insh Marshes with the aim of improving habitat for local wildlife and reducing the threat of flooding. The charity states in supporting information: “This project will realign the lower stretch of the River Tromie back onto the alluvial fan to create a more sustainable system.

A £450,000 refurbishment of the A95 Bridge of Avon at Ballindalloch is to get under way this weekend. Amey is carrying out the work from this Sunday (May 11) until Friday 25th July. The contractor has said the essential maintenance on behalf of Transport Scotland is required to maintain the safety and integrity of the bridge. An Amey spokesperson said: “Work will include resurfacing of the carriageway, replacement of the bridge deck waterproofing and replacement of the bridge expansion joints.
