THERE was a double celebration for a popular local couple last weekend. Paddy and Jenny Finlay celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary at home with their family. Meanwhile retired builder Paddy also celebrated his 90th birthday. The couple are pictured above with family members at their home on Daingean Road celebrating both landmark events on Sunday last. THE death has taken place of the former owner of the Bridge House Hotel in Tullamore, Christy Maye. Christy passed away in the early hours of Saturday morning following a long illness. No funeral details have yet been released. The deceased was a stalwart member of the business community in Tullamore for many years and developed the Bridge House Hotel into one of the leading establishments in the Midlands. A keen farmer, Christy was also proprietor of the famous Greville Arms Hotel in Mullingar.

THE decision of Offaly County Council to return the bring bank facility to the ball alley car park in Tullamore from last Thursday has been welcomed by Independent councillor, Sean O' Brien"This bring bank was removed by the council due to the persistent littering and dumping by a minority of people at this bring bank. "People were leaving bags, boxes and their domestic waste here on a regular basis. Both the council staff and Tidy Towns volunteers had to clean up this waste every other week.
