    Easter 2016 was the last holiday Fiona Galvin spent with her daughter, Kianna. She would report her missing on Mother’s Day. The 16-year-old left her family’s South Elgin home on May 6 and never returned. Galvin has been fighting to find out what happened to her daughter ever since. There’s been renewed attention on the case thanks to the Cook County sheriff’s office appeal for information on social media. “Thank you, Jesus,” Galvin said of the sheriff’s office’s effort.

    Courtyard 40, a residential and commercial adaptive reuse of a historic building in downtown Elgin, is ready for its closeup. Legend Partners purchased the building in 2014 and sunk $11.3 million into its renovation, creating 40 studio, one-, and two-bedroom apartments and ground floor retail space now being marketed for lease. More than half of that money was from TIF funding provided by the city. “We’ve been working toward this for a number of years,” Legend owner Dan Strojny said.

    Jane & Buds Cannabis Dispensary is set to become Elgin’s second recreational pot store, and the latest entry in the state’s billion-dollar cannabis industry, pending Elgin City Council approval. The proposal to convert the former Boston Market restaurant at 205 S. Randall Road into the new business has received the recommendation of the city’s Planning and Zoning Commission and will go to the council for review in a few weeks.

    Josephine “Josie” Beauchane Corsello shared heartbreaking memories Friday of her three babies. Jayden Corsello, 2, was a little firecracker, she said. His twin, Kayden, attached to his nana’s hip. Xander, their 1-year-old brother, was the happiest baby ever. “They were so beautiful,” said Beauchane Corsello, holding back tears as she spoke at the funeral service for the three boys, who died as a result of a Carpentersville house fire on March 30.
