Anthony McGrath was more encouraged than delighted as he prepared to leave Trent Bridge this evening with a 12-point haul in the bag following Yorkshire’s draw against Rothesay County Championship leaders Nottinghamshire. Head coach McGrath has time and again this season shown a positive attitude with regards to chasing results, but a win here was a stretch too far given the placid nature of the pitch and with the Kookaburra ball in play.

From Trent Bridge, where the it’s another dry and bright morning, though with plenty of cloud about. And it’s pretty warm too. Probably falls into the humid category. Yesterday was dominated by one man, Fin Bean, who hit a stunning 224 to help Yorkshire reach 414-6 in their first-innings reply to Nottinghamshire’s 487. The White Rose deficit is 73, with Matthew Revis at the crease unbeaten on 54 and George Hill on 4.

Captain Josh Gent and co were the only side to make it through, with the other three ties either not starting or starting and not finishing because of rain. That means the reserve day of Sunday, July 6 will come into play for Earby versus Blackrod, Ribblesdale Wanderers versus defending champions Read and Brinscall against Padiham. The latter was the only last-eight tie not to start. The other two matches will restart from where they were halted.

No injury is ever a good injury, but I would have to say that – as a left-arm seam bowler – a fractured right wrist is the best one I’ve ever had in my career! The good thing was that I’ve had pretty much two months of full bowling since being scanned upon my return from World Cup qualifying duty with Scotland in Pakistan in late April. The only things I couldn’t do were batting and fielding. That’s not to say it hasn’t been frustrating to have missed the first half of the summer. It definitely has.
