The Bountymen won the toss and decided to bat and got off to a good start until Byron James came into the attack and took 4-16. This left Basingstoke 26-3. Opener Ethan O’Donoghue kept the scoreboard going with an excellent 44 from 24 balls which included seven fours and two sixes. It was then left to Matt Deadman (20) and a half century from Joe Oates to move the score into three figures as they finished on 158-6.

As the game came to a thrilling finish, Odiham needed two runs to win the game off the final over. The first two balls bowled by Charlie Bowden were dot balls and this was quickly followed by two wickets as the tension grew to a climax. However, Odiham were not to be denied as they scored two runs off the next ball to finish on 140-6 from 19.5 overs. Josh Sivier top-scored with an excellent 83 not out, while Bowden was the pick of the bowlers with 2-22.

BASINGSTOKE Buffalo play-off winning netminder Dan Weller-Evans, who announced his retirement from playing in the summer, has taken on his first coaching job, writes Graham Merry. The popular cageman has joined the Berkshire Bees as a goalie and defence coach. The 30-year-old is no stranger to the team having played for them in seasons 2021/22 and 2022/23 and before that had eight years, as a shot stopper for the Basingstoke Bison where he was a firm fans’ favourite.

Harry Tempest has moved to Oxford (Image: Graham Merry) TWO of the most promising young ice hockey players in Basingstoke, Harry Tempest and Felix Hemmings-Maher have both joined the Oxford City Stars as their home rink awaits its long-awaited refurbishment. Teenage forward Tempest stepped up last autumn for his first full season with the Buffs and did not disappoint as he scored twice in 21 games.
