Environmentally-conscious students at a Haverhill school have written to a council to outline their opposition to the use of pesticides in the town. The Eco Club at Castle Manor Academy, made up of seven students in years eight and nine, wrote the letter to Suffolk County Council in support of the call made by Haverhill woman Nan Eshelby two weeks ago for it to stop using pesticides in the town because of the harmful effect on bees, other insects and also humans.

Plans for a vehicle maintenance access to serve a golf and country club look set to be approved despite concerns over highway safety. The application from M and D Developments for the access into All Saints Golf and Country Club, off The Street, in Fornham All Saints, has been recommended for approval when it is discussed by West Suffolk Council’s development control committee on Wednesday.

I’m an uncomplicated person and I enjoy simple things, so it was no surprise to me that the highlight of a weekend at Center Parcs Elveden Forest came as a result of just looking out of a window. First cup of tea of the day in hand, sitting in the lounge area of our lodge and taking in the grey February morning outside, my attention was drawn to movement on a nearby pine trunk . . . a tree creeper, not rare but a lovely little bird that we certainly don’t get in the garden at home.
