The developer behind a major pumped storage hydro project has said it is disappointed that Highland Council has decided to object to the scheme. Members of the council’s south planning applications committee rejected the advice of the local authority’s planning officers on Wednesday in deciding to object. The Ness District Salmon Fishery Board has called for a public inquiry to look at the impact of proposed pump storage hydro schemes on Loch Ness.

Animal inspectors have detailed the “overwhelming evidence of neglect” they found at the home of a man convicted of failing to care for a host of pets. Scott Trist (35) was living at an address in Thain Road, Whitebridge when he was visited by Scottish SPCA inspectors following a complaint by a member of the public.

Owners of a popular cafe in the Culduthel area of Inverness want to add hot food to its offerings. A change of use for Shakes ‘n’ Cakes in Culduthel Mains Avenue is required to allow it to provide hot food, with an extraction flue also having to be fitted for that. According to a report going before Highland Council’s south planning applications committee today retail units at the site had previously been granted permission “specifically excluding Class 3 use hot food takeaway”.
