Minnesota State University in Mankato was hit harder than most — it was home to about half of those students.

This week, students at the University of Minnesota-Duluth are protesting moves by the administration to abruptly end the university’s deaf studies program. The university has offered the minor since 2008. A change.org petition has received over 7,000 signatures as of Wednesday. To learn more about the impact on students, MPR News host Tom Crann spoke with Anneliese Wanninger, president of UMD’s American Sign Language Club. MPR News reached out to UMD for comment.

Ahead of the five-year anniversary of the murder of George Floyd by Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin, a new documentary follows three community organizers through their fight for change, justice and healing in the aftermath of that murder seen round the world. The documentary is called “The People’s Way,” echoing the same words written in red on a former gas station at 38th and Chicago in South Minneapolis, near the site of Floyd’s murder.
