On June 4, the King County Medical Examiner’s Office (KCMEO) held a memorial ceremony for 405 people who have passed away in the county and had not received a proper burial. Dozens of mourners, including county officials, religious leaders, human service providers and concerned community members, gathered at Mt. Olivet cemetery in Renton to grieve the deceased and offer prayers.

On May 30, Seattle City Councilmember Cathy Moore announced she would be withdrawing a proposed ordinance that would have weakened the city’s ethics code following vocal backlash from constituents. Her bill would have dropped the requirements for council members to recuse themselves from voting on legislation in which they have a vested financial interest and could benefit or lose from. Moore’s proposal instead just required disclosure of potential conflicts of interest.
