    A new agency could be investigating the deadly 2023 road rage shooting of a 33-year-old North Carolina man involving a North Myrtle Beach business owner. Horry County’s top administrator Barry Spivey asked on Thursday, April 17, that the State Law Enforcement Division reopen the deadly shooting case, which SLED had previously closed and the S.C. Attorney General's Office said it would not prosecute.

    A pedestrian died after being hit by a Freightliner tanker truck in the Myrtle Beach area early Thursday, April 10, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol. Cpl. Nick Pye with the SCHP said the crash happened about 5:50 a.m. on U.S. 501 near Legends Drive. A 2025 Freightliner tanker truck was traveling south on U.S. 501 when it struck a pedestrian in the roadway, Pye said. SCHP is investigating. The Horry County Coroner's Office has not released the name of the pedestrian at this time.

    Conway leaders accused a developer of misleading the city about a proposed workforce housing project during a heated workshop Monday, April 7. Eighty workforce housing apartments are proposed for a nearly 8-acre site at North Main Street and Chicora Boulevard, right off the corridor leading into the downtown district. City leaders had delayed a March vote on the rezoning of the property from Highway Commercial to High-Density Residential (R3) to learn more about the project.

    A 62-year-old died in a two-vehicle collision on Sea Mountain Highway in the North Myrtle Beach area Friday afternoon, April 4, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol. Steven Marshall was struck while operating a motorcycle and later died at the hospital, the Horry County Coroner's Office said. The crash happened at 1:32 p.m. at Sea Mountain Highway and Morgan Avenue, said Master Trooper Brandon Bolt with SCHP.

These days she wears tennis shoes. She longs for the high heels she can no longer wear. Myrtle Beach’s city prosecutor Katie Owens keeps truckin’ – even after being diagnosed with primary progressive multiple sclerosis. And she’s able to keep going thanks to, in part, the legal community and her coworkers who have rallied around her.
