NORWALK, Conn. — In partnership with the city, the former location of two dilapidated houses in South Norwalk has been transformed into a spruce pocket park by the husband-and-wife philanthropists who are also undertaking the restoration of Manresa Island. “You draw it, I’ll do it,” said Austin McChord of his and his wife Allison’s decision to fund the park’s creation during a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Friday, marking its official opening to the public.

The evening began with an hour-long musical program in the Concert Hall. Then the audience headed outdoors where the temperature was at the freezing mark. After brief remarks from Mayor Harry Rilling, the tree was lit. Then sirens were heard, signaling the arrival of Santa Claus on a fire engine.

Seven months to the day after the Fairfield Avenue bridge sagged and fractured under the intense heat of a gasoline-fueled fire, its replacement opened Monday carrying traffic and pedestrians over Interstate 95. “It was a coordinated sprint to today,” said Garrett Eucalitto, commissioner of the state Dept. of Transportation, describing how the replacement bridge was completed months earlier than scheduled and under its projected cost.

NORWALK, Conn. — The city’s fleet of electric vehicles expanded Wednesday with the debut of two police cars emblazoned with the colors and mascots of Norwalk’s two high schools. The cars will be used by the Police Department’s School Resource Officers (SROs), who are patrol officers specially trained to work in schools interacting with students and faculty.
