This annual chore continues (although it is harder now without Nancy’s tutelage!): I will offer 10 predictions for Norwalk in 2025, and I must score my effort from one year ago. First, looking back to the 2024 Predictions — www.nancyonnorwalk.com/predictions-for-2024/ – I think I did a pretty good job: I claim 6 out of 11. Okay, some of these were rather easy, but given there aren’t any rules for predictions, I will take what I can get.

DARIEN, Conn. – State Representative Tracy Marra (R-141) and Deputy Republican Leader Tom O’Dea (R-125) will host a legislative forum on Tuesday, Jan. 14, from 7 to 8 p.m. at Darien Town Hall, Room 119, located at 2 Renshaw Road. Norwalk residents in the 141st district are encouraged to attend the free event to learn more about the upcoming 2025-2027 legislative session and share their concerns or ideas with their representatives.

The latest annual report on crime in Connecticut municipalities reveals that Norwalk’s crime rates in two out of three categories ran counter to the state trends in 2023, according to Police Chief James Walsh. That statistical divergence is a measure of the progress his department is making in areas including community partnerships, heightened vigilance, and hiring success, Walsh said. His comments came in a wide-ranging interview as he approaches his second year of tenure as police chief.

State Rep. Travis Simms (D-140) is facing a fight in his bid to retain the seat he’s held for nearly six years: the Rev. Carleton Giles, a popular pastor, wants the position. The pair will square off on Aug. 13 in a Democratic primary. “We expect a tight race,” Norwalk Democratic Registrar Stuart Wells said. District 140 is partly in central Norwalk, with a chunk of South Norwalk.

Norwalk’s taxing districts date back to before there were streets or Common Council district borders, but now the 100-plus-year-old district lines are posing challenges for the city’s Reapportionment Committee. The committee is tasked with realigning the city’s Common Council districts for the first time in more than 40 years, in an effort to make sure they are as equal as possible so residents have fair representation.
