Borough of Queenscliffe CEO Martin Gill has been handed a formal warning by the state's council watchdog for "likely" breaching the Local Government Act following an investigation into him handling his own Performance Appraisal. It comes after the ABC in January revealed Mr Gill had faced a separate investigation into allegations he had threatened to "take apart" a councillor. The borough says it will take no further action following the warning.

There is a call for MP attendance to be officially recorded in Victoria’s parliament, amid concerns over how well one state member is representing his constituents. Darren Cheeseman, the member for South Barwon — which covers Geelong and parts of the Surf Coast — resigned from the parliamentary Labor Party last year amid allegations of inappropriate workplace behaviour. He has since served as an independent MP, earning more than $200,000 a year as his parliamentary contributions have dropped.

The City of Greater Geelong should consider a mass sell-off of council-owned properties to reduce its $190 million debt, new mayor Stretch Kontelj says. The city's recently completed $102 million civic headquarters could be one property to go under the hammer, amid questions around its "financial sustainability". The council has been unable to lease a full floor of office space in the almost three years since the building was completed.

Victoria's smallest council is in turmoil just months into its four-year term, amid an investigation into allegations its CEO threatened to "take apart" a councillor. Meanwhile its most popular councillor is considering quitting, reportedly due to a toxic work environment. The ABC understands the Borough of Queenscliffe has investigated allegations that its CEO Martin Gill made verbal threats to a councillor in late 2024, with at least two formal complaints lodged by councillors.
