    MANSFIELD — Richland County Mental Health and Recovery Services is seeking to renew a levy voters first passed about 40 years ago. Since its original approval in 1986, the levy has been replaced and renewed on a few occasions, Sherry Branham-Fonner told county commissioners Tuesday morning. Branham-Fonner, executive director of Richland County MH&RS, said voters have remained constant in their support of the Mental Health and Recovery Services Board.

    SHELBY — A proposed charter amendment is back on the table for Shelby lawmakers to consider sending to voters in November. The proposed legislation, read for the first time during City Council’s meeting Monday, calls for an extension of the filing deadline for Shelby candidates from 75 days to 90 days. In order to be placed before Shelby voters on the Nov. 4 general election ballot, council must approve three readings of the ordinance and pass the legislation.

    SHELBY — Downtown Shelby was covered in black and yellow Saturday. The inaugural Shel-Bee Festival opened at the Black Fork Commons Plaza at 11 a.m., attracting a large crowd of attendees as the sun broke through the clouds. More than 40 vendors set up for business during the six-hour event, each offering bee-related products or incorporating bee-related decor. A few vendors also offered pollinator plants.

    SHELBY — Free summer lunches for children ages 18 and under will be available at Shelby Help Line Ministries starting June 2. The program is designed to serve children from Shelby and Tiro. Kids must be present to receive a lunch — which will be offered Monday through Friday from 12 to 1 p.m. June 2 through Aug. 15. Lunches may be picked up at Shelby Help Line Ministries, 39 Walnut St., around the back of the building.

    SHELBY — Holland Springfield coach Rob Gwozdz was the first to remind Madison coach Tim Niswander how good the Rams are following a heartbreaking loss Friday. After leading 5-0 through six and a half innings, Madison (21-7) gave up a walk-off grand slam to Springfield’s Hannah Schlachter in the bottom of the seventh. The 6-5 loss ended the Rams’ season as regional runners-up in Division III. Niswander said Gwozdz had tears in his eyes as the teams met to shake hands.
