What is closed for the National Day of Mourning?

If you are expecting something in the mail, you will have to wait another day. President Joe Biden declared Thursday, Jan. 9, as a to honor the 39th president of the United States, Jimmy Carter. Federal offices will be closed. Most federal employees will have the day off, but it is not considered a national holiday.
Forecast prompts Cleveland to keep warming centers open

Winter weather continues to impact Greater Cleveland with off and on snow showers and high winds in the forecast today. Gusty winds and cold temperatures are expected to continue the rest of the week, according to the National Weather Service. The City of Cleveland is responding by extending hours for its warming centers. The Division of Recreation will keep warming centers open from Monday, Jan. 6 through Thursday, Jan. 9.

Greater Clevelanders pick up the pace in early voting

There is less than one week until Election Day, but many Cuyahoga County voters aren’t waiting until Tuesday. On Monday, Oct. 28, voters cast 3,700 early in-person ballots. More than 41,000 in-person ballots have been cast since early voting started on Oct. 8. Statewide, more than 1.8 million Ohioans have voted early ahead of the Nov.
Election deadlines approaching, early voting hours expand

With just under two weeks left until Election Day on Nov. 5, 2024, the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections has received more than 53,000 vote by mail ballots. There is still time to request an absentee ballot; the deadline is Oct. 29. Vote-by-mail ballots must be postmarked by Nov. 4. You can also return your absentee ballot in person to the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections, 2925 Euclid Ave., before the polls close at 7:30 p.m. on Election Day.

Cleveland is shining for the whole country to see this weekend. The Guardians are hosting the American League Championship Series beginning Thursday night, at Progressive Field. It is Rock & Roll Hall of Fame week with the induction ceremony taking place on Saturday. And the Browns take on their Ohio rival, the Cincinnati Bengals, on Sunday. All that fun comes at a price for folks driving downtown.

Good news for Cleveland Water customers: Boil alert lifted

The boil advisory issued on Monday, for parts of Lyndhurst, South Euclid, University Heights, Shaker Heights, Highland Hills, Warrensville Heights, North Randall, and a portion of the east side of Cleveland has been lifted. On Tuesday evening, Cleveland Water received results from the water samples taken earlier in the day, the department said in a news release. Water samples were taken from 12 locations in the advisory area. No pathogens were present in any of the samples.
Here’s what you need to know

A boil alert is in effect for a portion of Cleveland’s East Side and seven eastern suburbs after a water main break in Shaker Heights. The Cleveland Water Department issued the alert on Monday after discovering the break in a 30-inch water main on Van Aken Boulevard near Ashby Road. The water department expects the boil alert will remain in effect through Wednesday, Oct. 16. “Organisms that cause illness in people may have entered the water supply,” according to the water department’s website.
