A Gaelic treasure trove has been reopened after a museum restoration on Canna in the Hebrides. The National Trust for Scotland (NTS) spent nine years restoring the home of late Gaelic scholar John Lorne Campbell. The ecologist and his wife, American photographer and folklorist Margaret Fay Shaw, bequeathed the island to the charity after amassing a vast archive of Gaelic music, folklore and culture.

Corran ferry foot passengers are to be charged for the first time. A £2 charge has been agreed by Highland councillors, who voted 9-8 in favour of the fee at a meeting in Inverness. The Corran Narrows crossing, between the A82 and A861 in Lochaber, links the communities of Fort William, Ardgour, Sunart, Ardnamurchan, Moidart, Morar, Morvern and the Isle of Mull.

A new steel statue in Kingussie is bringing the story of one of Scotland’s most destructive historical figures back to life, nearly six centuries after his death. Alexander Stewart, descendant of Scots king Robert the Bruce, was notorious for his violent rampage across Moray and the Highlands in the late 14th century. Known as “The Wolf of Badenoch,” Stewart’s reign of terror included burning down religious sites, plundering abbeys, and committing a series of murderous land-grabs.
