    FORTROSE care home residents have been treated to a “fantastic” day out in Ullapool, to see the iconic Waverley paddle steamer. On May 24, Eilean Dubh Care Home took the opportunity to take a trip out west to see the world’s last seagoing paddle steamer, the Waverley, which was celebrating its 50th anniversary of its first sailing in preservation.

    A POPULAR Dingwall business has been forced to close its doors after a fire in the area left the safety of the premises in doubt. Staff are losing out on pay while Batty’s Baps, on the town’s High Street, is closed following the blaze in the early hours of Sunday morning. The fire broke out in an alleyway close to the shop, the affected thoroughfare deemed “structurally unsafe” in the aftermath.

    Some of Scotland’s most acclaimed traditional musicians are heading back to school this June to mark a major milestone in Highland musical education. The National Centre of Excellence in Traditional Music in Plockton is celebrating its 25th anniversary with a special concert at Eden Court Theatre, Inverness, on June 19 and the event will bring together past and present students in a vibrant showcase of Scottish traditional music.
