Hilltop Primary School in Airdrie were the winners of the Glasgow and Strathclyde award, with 24 pupils collecting 58 bags of litter. Tidy and triumphant Airdrie schoolchildren came out on top of a litter-picking initiative - for a third year in a row. Almost 50,000 bags of litter were picked during this year’s Spring Clean Scotland as people across the country rolled up their sleeves to tackle the litter emergency.

Following close consultation with North Lanarkshire Council, SGN's project will start on Monday, June 9, and take approximately two months to complete. Gas network company SGN is investing £265,000 to upgrade its pipeline infrastructure in the Paddock Street area of Coatbridge. This will ensure local homes and businesses continue to receive "a safe and reliable gas supply". The project involves replacing old metal mains reaching the end of their useful lives with new plastic pipe.
