    COLUMBIA — The University of South Carolina will require almost all of its employees to work from campus starting July 1, ending remote work in a return to pre-pandemic status for the flagship university.     COLUMBIA — "Several" international students studying at the University of South Carolina have had their U.S. visas terminated by the federal government, according to university spokesman Jeff Stensland. The revocations come as colleges and universities across the country have reported similar terminations, the Associated Press reported, including at Harvard, Stanford, Michigan, UCLA and Ohio State University. USC has been in contact with the students with revoked visas, Stensland said.

"Morrie" Scherrens, longtime president of Newberry College, died the morning of April 6 after an unspecified illness, according to a statement from the chair of the college's board of trustees. He was 76. Scherrens had led the small college as its 22nd president since 2012.

    COLUMBIA — State senators this week advanced a bill meant to increase accountability over South Carolina's growing charter school sector by upping state oversight of their sponsors and fleshing out the system for schools to transfer between them. The legislation comes amid concerns that some of the independently run public schools have tried to skirt oversight by switching sponsors, the organizations that authorize the schools and oversee their operations.
