Pier approach (Image: Newsquest) A TEENAGER has been arrested on suspicion of possessing an offensive weapon and assaulting a police officer near the beach. At around 7.55pm on June 21, police received reports of a man who was believed to be in possession of a knuckle duster in the area of Pier Approach in Bournemouth.

3 1/1 AFTER the hottest day of the year so far, police have urged members of the public to take their rubbish home saying there are "no excuses" for littering. Temperatures reached almost 34C in parts of England over the weekend, with visitors populating the New Forest to spend a day in the sunshine. However, after two instances of fly-tipping, police have urged the public to clear up after themselves.

2 1/1 DORSET's only open air swimming pool is back open following extensive renovations in time for the summer. Shaftesbury Lido has undergone around £120,000 worth of renovations in order to improve it for users and bring it up to modern standards. Money raised by members of the community, the council, local businesses and a grant from Sport England meant the pool could have replaced pipework and filtration systems and a new liner.

Poole Grammar School, on Gravel Hill, has been found to have both good and outstanding areas after an inspection by Ofsted on May 13 and 14. The school educates 1199 boys aged between 11 and 18, led by headteacher Mrs Katie Etheridge. Teachers are "ambitious" for pupils to do well, inspector Kelly Olive found, and pupils display consistently excellent attitudes to learning and are "happy" and "enjoy coming to school".
