TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) - Affordable housing got a boost from Pima County with no tax increase, at least for now. The board of supervisors approved two proposals on Tuesday, June 3. At the meeting, several supervisors called affordable housing a pressing need, citing how much a large portion of renters are spending on rent and utilities. Affordable housing programs would help them cover costs or find places that don’t cost so much in the first place.

TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) - Helping Tucson’s economy thrive during hot summer months is one goal of a round of grants to local businesses. And it comes from state sales tax money that Rio Nuevo manages. “Right now I’m on an experimental journey, so I’m trying a bunch of different flavors,” said Talisa Kayonnie, a customer at Scented Leaf Tea House. She is drawn by its flavors and local roots. “I prefer coming to local places because it keeps the money in the neighborhood,” Kayonnie said.

Writer and director Sally Shamrell landed Hollywood legend Danny Trejo for her movie and insisted it be made right here, even if the incentives in other states are better. Shamrell is from southern Arizona and wrote the story based on people and events here. She said that she hopes what others see will spark more interest in making movies here again.
