JONESBORO, Ark. (KAIT) - Over the past three weeks, farmers have been battling rising river and drainage ditch levels, setting some of them behind their planting schedule. Farmers like Zach Carter of Greene County are eager to get their crops in the fields, but with more rain on the way, they could be delayed even more. “Some of them that have been doing this for 50+ years have never seen anything like it. TRUMANN, Ark. (KAIT) - Firefighters in Trumann moved into their brand-new home with new upgrades and a larger facility to better serve the people of Trumann. The new station is built to new code standards and has new systems to help firefighters and those in need. It has been over 4 years since the 20 Trumann firefighters have had a place to call home. Construction of Station 1 began over a year ago. Now it houses all the trucks and is staffed 24 hours a day.

With severe weather in the forecast Thursday, residents in Trumann should not worry: there are still 3 operational sirens in city limits. LAKE CITY, Ark. (KAIT) - Chainsaws and bulldozers are hard at work near the intersection of Highway 18 and 135, which was one of the hardest hit areas by the recent tornadoes. TRUMANN, Ark. (KAIT) - Trumann is closer to having its nursing home back in operation. Back in December 2021, an EF-3 hit the area, destroying the only nursing home in town. According to Mayor Jay Paul Woods, the new nursing home will be significantly larger than the old one. “It was in the 50s neighborhood with the rooms they had in the last one and this one will be 93 or 96, something like that, so it’s going to be a lot bigger,” he said.

JONESBORO, Ark. (KAIT) - One Craighead County city’s road overlay project is close to completion. The city of Jonesboro has been working hard on the project over the past year. The FY2024 budget allocated $1,000,000 for the 2024 road overlay program. To date, 16 out of the 22 roads designated have been completed. However, the work does not stop there. Jonesboro Mayor Harold Copenhaver said he has more ideas on ways to improve pedestrian safety.
