    THE organisers of this year’s Fastnet Film Festival had much to celebrate at their launch party at The Crane Lane in Cork city last week, as festival director Tom McCarthy and creative advisor Lenny Abrahamson said this year promises a thrilling mix of Hollywood stars, screenings, panels, and special guest events in Schull.     A MID-MORNING call-out to Courtmacsherry RNLI resulted in a lone fisherman having his boat mended on the spot. Vincent O’Donovan, Courtmacsherry’s launch authority and press officer, told The Southern Star they got the call at 11.22am on Wednesday, May 7th and the crew on board the Val Adnams immediately went to the aid of the fisherman on board the 18ft vessel.

    THE discovery of a stone with mysterious markings led to a sleuthing expedition by local historian and archaeologist Finola Finlay. Willie O’Regan got in touch with The Southern Star after finding a green-coloured rock in a ditch along the water’s edge on Inchydoney Island, and that spurred the quest. Mr O’Regan explained that the area around the rock had been washed away by the tides and he wondered if the rock, partly hidden by an overhanging bush, could be an ancient Ogham stone?
