    The mycelia are alive with the sound of music, says West Cork man Michael Prime, a sound artist who has collaborated with plants and fungi for over 20 years. Michael, who is also the director of Comillane Gardens and The Fernery in Skibbereen, has the distinction of being the only artist in this field who amplifies the bioelectric voltages produced by the plants and fungi themselves, rather than just injecting a signal through them.

    A 40th anniversary memorial of the Air India Disaster will take place in Ahakista at 8am on Monday, June 23rd. The annual service is organised by Cork County Council, and the local community, on behalf of the families of those who lost their lives in the tragic incident. On June 23rd 1985, Air India Flight 182 exploded off the south coast of Ireland killing everyone on board.

    GARDAÍ are appealing for witnesses following a serious injury road traffic collision which occurred in the townland of Donemark, Bantry, in the early hours of this morning Saturday 14th June. Gardaí and emergency services responded to the collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian shortly after 3.00am. The male pedestrian, aged in his late 30s was taken by ambulance to Cork University Hospital for treatment of serious injuries.

    In a show of community resistance, more than 1,000 residents and supporters took part in a peaceful marine and land protest at 6:30pm yesterday, opposing the controversial approval of a 25-hectare mussel farm off Kinsale’s only public beach, Dock Beach. The protest included a flotilla of over 200 paddle boards, kayaks, sailing boats, fishing vessels and swimmers, with hundreds more gathered on land in solidarity.
