Man who laundered cryptocurrency jailed for two years

A 43-year-old man has been sentenced to two years in jail after he pleaded guilty to cyber crimes, following an investigation by the Garda National Cyber Crime Bureau and the FBI. Cork Circuit Criminal Court was told that Suleman Mazhar was offering for sale through a website malware and ransomware designed to damage IT systems.
Girl who died in crash during race in Cork named locally

The 13-year old girl, who died in a crash during a motor racing event in Co Cork yesterday, has been named locally as Lauren O'Brien from the West Cork village of Tarelton. She was competing with other junior class drivers in a heat to qualify for a Cork Autograss Racing Club event at a race track in Castletown-Kinneigh, around 20km from Bandon in west Cork. Her buggie, or modified car, was involved in a collision during the race and she suffered serious injuries.

A 13-year-old girl has died in a crash during a motor racing event in Co Cork. The incident took place at a track in Enniskean about 10km from Bandon in west Cork. The girl was participating in a heat of an official Cork Autograss Racing Club event when her vehicle crashed. She died at the scene. Her body has been taken to Cork University Hospital. A garda investigation is now under way. The girl is understood to be from the area.

The brother of 38-year-old Deepa Dinamani, who was murdered at her home in Wilton in Cork almost two years ago, has said words cannot describe the depth of pain, grief and devastation his family have had to endure since her death. Ms Dinamani's husband, Regin Rajan, has been sentenced to life imprisonment after a Central Criminal Court jury unanimously found him guilty of her murder at the conclusion of his trial early last month.

Body of man recovered from River Lee in Cork city

The body of a man in his 30s has been recovered from the River Lee in Cork city centre. Emergency services were alerted at around 7pm to a man in difficulty in the water near Pope's Quay. Gardaí and emergency services initiated a search and rescue operation and the man's body was recovered just before 9pm. Gardaí said the local coroner has been notified and arrangements will now be made for a post-mortem examination on the man's body.

Re-classification of Gaine case could be significant

Michael Gaine has been missing since Thursday 20 March. He was formally reported missing the following day, Friday 21 March. The reason for the re-classification of the investigation into his disappearance, from a missing person's investigation to a homicide investigation, is really quite simple: Those who are heading up the garda investigation have arrived at the conclusion that, firstly, Mr Gaine is now dead, and secondly, that he was killed.
