    Illinois congresspeople tried to enter an immigration processing center in the Chicago area Wednesday, but for the second straight day were denied entry. U.S. Reps. Delia Ramirez, Jesús "Chuy" García, Jonathan Jackson, and Danny Davis went to a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement processing center in Broadview Wednesday. The members of Congress said they have heard reports that the facility is being used as a detention center, in violation of state and city ordinances.

    The Chicago Teachers Union is threatening to sue the Chicago Public Schools for what they call a contract violation, and unfair labor practices. In April, the union and the district agreed to a four-year deal that included pay raises, smaller classes, and higher staffing levels. But now, the CTU is accusing the district of trying to delay those changes for class size and staffing levels. CPS responded and said any changes have not yet been officially approved.

    Search on for robbers behind home invasion in Oak Lawn, Illinois Police on the southwest Chicago suburb of Oak Lawn were searching for two robbers, who invaded a man's home and robbed him at gunpoint in broad daylight Wednesday. Just after 2 p.m., Oak Lawn police were called for a home invasion near 90th Street and Sproat Avenue. A homeowner told police two masked people broke in through his back door, and he confronted them.

    Thousands came out Wednesday evening to honor the four girls killed when a car plowed through an after-school camp building in downstate Chatham, Illinois, earlier this week. Friends, family, and supporters filled the stands for the student-organized vigil at Glenwood High School in Chatham, in central Illinois just south of Springfield. State police were called to YNOT Outdoors Summer and After School camp at about 3:20 p.m. Monday when a car crashed into the east side of the building.

Kids and volunteers gathered at the Rauner Family YMCA on Saturday for the 5th annual "McDonald's with Mekhi."Mekhi James was shot and killed in June 2020 while riding home with his stepfather to enjoy a Happy Meal. Every year since, on his birthday, his family buys Happy Meals to share with other children in his memory.
