A 20-year-old man died Sunday after a fiery crash where his sedan left the road, entered a ditch and struck a tree in northeast Kansas. The man was identified as Richard Roberts of Sebring, Florida, Kansas Highway Patrol logs show. The crash was reported at 2:13 a.m. along U.S. 77 in Geary County. Roberts was driving northbound on U.S. 77 in a 2020 Ford Fusion. The report said he was driving at a high rate of speed and entered a ditch.

A 44-year-old Attica man died in a head-on crash with a semi on Friday on K-42 in rural Sedgwick County, a Kansas Highway Patrol trooper said. Eugene Judson Theodore Stumblingbear died at the scene of the accident, which happened at 12:51 p.m. He was driving east in the westbound lanes on the two-lane highway in a 2010 Buick LaCrosse and hit head on with a 2024 Western Star semi.

Construction at I-135 and K-96 interchange (March 2025) Julie Mah The Wichita Eagle The westbound K-96 ramp to southbound I-135 in Wichita will be closed this weekend for bridge work. The Kansas Department of Transportation will close the ramp at 5 a.m. Saturday, May 17. It is expected to reopen by Sunday afternoon. During the closure, drivers should use the Hillside exit from westbound K-96, then drive south to 21st Street to access southbound I-135 as a detour, KDOT said.

A north Wichita highway ramp will close Tuesday and will remain closed until early winter. The Kansas Department of Transportation will close the westbound K-96 ramp to Hydraulic Avenue in north Wichita. Workers will install a temporary concrete safety barrier and complete striping. “This will let progress continue on the new westbound K-96 North Junction work as it moves into new phases,” KDOT said in a news release.

A 52-year-old Kansas man died Sunday in a rollover crash that threw him out of his truck, which landed on top of him. Kansas Highway Patrol crash logs identified the victim as Sean Brookstore of Elkhart, Kansas. The crash was reported at 7:53 a.m. in rural Morton County. Brookstore was eastbound on Morton County Road F in a 2001 Dodge Ram, the KHP said.
