BOSTON — A man from Lynn was identified as the victim of a fatal shooting in Allston on Saturday morning. On Monday, the Police Department identified the victim as Marco Alfonso Sosa, 32. According to a press release from the department, officers responded to a report of two people shot at 85 E. Newton St. in the city’s South End just before 2:30 a.m. on Saturday. One victim, later identified as Sosa, was pronounced dead at the scene.

WORCESTER — A Lynn firefighter was honored last week at the state’s 34th annual Firefighter of the Year Awards. Lt. Matt Reddy was recognized as one of 11 recipients of Governor’s Citations for Meritorious Conduct at the Nov. 21 ceremony. “Each year, the Firefighter of the Year Awards recognize acts of bravery, heroism, and service that are truly remarkable – even by the remarkable standards set by Massachusetts firefighters,” Gov. Maura Healey said.

LYNN — Former Mayor, Ward 7 City Councilor, and Postmaster Thomas P. Costin Jr. had a unique relationship with President John F. Kennedy and his father, Joseph Kennedy. This special relationship allowed Costin to pass on a warning to John Kennedy a week before the president’s fateful trip to Dallas in November 1963 – a warning that ultimately went unheeded. However, the story really begins a decade and a half earlier, in 1947.

HURRICANE MILLS, TN. — New London second-grader Jackson Blow-Smith, 7, will compete with the top motocross racers across the nation in Hurricane Mills, Tennessee, this week. Beginning Tuesday evening, Jackson will take to the track at the 2023 Monster Energy AMA Amateur National Motocross Championship in competition with the top 42 youth motocross riders in his class from across the nation. Jackson successfully qualifying for this national race did not just happen overnight.
