COLUMBUS − Heading into the OHSAA Division III state track meet June 6 at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium, Loudonville's Braden Carr and Cooper Sage came into the boys pole vault event in pretty good shape in terms of recent outings. Carr, a junior, was making his third straight appearance at the state meet, coming off being runner-up at the district meet in Ravenna where he cleared 13-6, then upped his height to 14-0 at the regional meet in Fostoria that resulted into a third-place finish.

COLUMBUS ― As she was coming around the curve in the last stages of the 3200 meters final during the OHSAA Division III state track meet on Saturday June 7, Loudonville's Tess Shultz heard a familiar voice in the crowd steering her on towards the completion of the eight-lap race. "Coming around the corner, I felt powerful, and I heard my dad saying, 'Speed up. It's your time to move.'"Shultz heard her dad loud and clear and moved herself right into a sixth-place finish (11:14.95) in the 3200.

COLUMBUS − She's been here before. Even as a freshman at last year's Division III state meet in Dayton, the big stage wasn't too bright for Smithville's Maryn Erdman when she claimed state gold in the 800 meters (2:13.17). This year, the expectation was still the same, and coming into Saturday morning's state final as the No. 1 seed and the lowest Division III time of 2:14.02, a repeat was expected again.

COLUMBUS − Coming into Friday's pole vault at the Division III state track meet, Crestview's Liam Kuhn said he didn't feel the pressure of topping his placing in the last two state meets (6th in 2023; 4th in 2024) and that he just wanted to "stay in the flow with things."He was able to do that and claim another medal as an All-Ohioan for the third time in his main event, with his highest bar clearance of the day being at 15-6.

Gritty final. Thought Spain had that with the run they've been on in past two years. Portugal didn't flinch at all in that penalty shootout. Don't be surprised if these two meet up in knockout stages of next year's World Cup. Sign me up! #UEFANationsLeague #NationsLeague

Watching Carlos Alcaraz is kind of like watching a mine-version of Federer in his prime. His shot-making, forehand, flicks, racket speed, volleys & touch is really something. Especially hard to do that on clay. Wonderful final. #FrenchOpen #Tennis

Heck of a 200-meter final with Oak Harbor's Tyler Thompson taking third, two spots back of Brookville's Coy Hyre, who wins and breaks the D2 state meet record. #OHSAA https://t.co/aZtu0g3lwj
