URBANA — The Yard on Broadway — a new development underway at the former Broadway Food Hall — has added two more eateries to its roster. Drew Smith, co-owner of Smith Burger Co. and the property at 401 N. Broadway Ave., shared that there will be a "pizza and oven-baked grinder concept" by Smith Restaurant Group known as The Regal Pig Social. The business will also offer charcuterie. "It won't be open right away when the food hall opens," Smith said.

URBANA — Champaign County Judge Jason Bohm has denied Sooie Bros. co-owner Alven Allison’s request for a no-contact order against the Champaign Urbana Public Health District. “Those allegations or even a combination of those allegations do not establish stalking,” he said in court Thursday afternoon. Bohm added that since the Board of Health has denied Allison’s appeal of the red placard, the next step for the restaurateur is to file a complaint disputing the decision if he so chooses.

Alven Allison filed a petition for a no-contact order against the health district on Monday. He is seeking protection not just for himself, but also his family and business associates.

CHAMPAIGN — As work continues on drainage infrastructure and other improvements for the Garden Hills neighborhood, Champaign civil engineer Tyler Suits advises that residents should expect “significant road closures” in 2025. These will mainly be located along Hedge Road and Paula Drive, he said. “Total road closures are needed to allow for the construction of new storm sewers under the street and for the construction of new sidewalks and roadway pavement,” Suits said.

THOMASBORO — Champaign County Coroner Laurie Brauer released the name of a Champaign woman who died after a crash Monday on Interstate 57 near Thomasboro. Ilda E. Tzintzun Zamudio, 27, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, which took place on northbound I-57 near mile marker 243, Brauer's office said. An autopsy is scheduled for this week, the coroner’s office said. The Illinois State Police and the coroner’s office are investigating.

GRANITE CITY — Upgrades to the Illinois Terminal, a research facility expansion at the University of Illinois and park renovations in Urbana are among the projects impacted by approximately $67 million in cuts for Illinois’ 13th Congressional District. U.S. Rep. Nikki Budzinski, D-Springfield, met with local stakeholders Tuesday in Granite City to discuss the impacts of a recent continuing resolution that excluded projects previously approved by the House Committee on Appropriations.
