BERTHOUD, Colo. — A Denver man has been arrested in connection with a fatal shooting in Berthoud this week. About 11:20 p.m. April 28, the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch center received a 911 call about a shooting in the 500 block of First Street. The caller reported that a woman was shot inside a home. Larimer County deputies and a Colorado State Patrol trooper who was nearby responded and began providing first aid. The woman died at the scene.

THORNTON, Colo. — The victim of an attempted kidnapping this week in Thornton told police she was grabbed from behind as she walked home and squeezed so tightly that she "could not breathe," according to an arrest affidavit from the Thornton Police Department. Steven Houseman was arrested Tuesday at Thornton High School in connection with the attempted kidnapping, which happened around 11 a.m. on Monday as she walked near Thornton Middle School.

In February, Lu Reh was convicted of first-degree murder and multiple counts of attempted murder in connection with the death of Kaing, who was shot and killed by a stray bullet on July 15, 2022, in the 1300 block of North Xenia Street. Bullets fired from the nearby New Freedom Park struck Kaing, who was putting groceries away.

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Colo. — A second person will be sentenced Friday morning in connection with the 2023 death of a woman who was killed when a large rock was thrown through her windshield and struck her in the head. Zachary Kwak, now 20, faces between 20 and 32 years in prison under the terms of a plea agreement. Last May, he pleaded guilty to first-degree assault, second-degree assault, and attempted second-degree assault. Thirteen counts were dismissed.

EL PASO COUNTY, Colo. — A Fort Carson soldier has been arrested on federal drug charges, the Denver FBI Office announced Thursday morning. U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Juan Gabriel Orona-Rodriguez was arrested Wednesday evening by special agents. He faces charges related to the distribution of cocaine. According to the FBI, the DEA Rocky Mountain Field Division, the Department of the Army Criminal Investigation Division, and Fort Carson officials assisted with the investigation.

Once there, officers discovered a man's body and took another male into custody. Five vehicles were damaged, and one person was taken to a hospital after several rocks fell onto Interstate 70 near Idaho Springs. The rocks fell onto the westbound lanes of the highway near mile marker 236 around 6:30 a.m., causing a brief closure of the highway, according to a spokesman for the Colorado State Patrol. The spokesman said the driver of a Mazda hit the rocks and their vehicle became disabled. One person was taken to the hospital, but it's not clear if that person was the driver.
