    BERTHOUD, Colo. — A Denver man has been arrested in connection with a fatal shooting in Berthoud this week. About 11:20 p.m. April 28, the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch center received a 911 call about a shooting in the 500 block of First Street. The caller reported that a woman was shot inside a home. Larimer County deputies and a Colorado State Patrol trooper who was nearby responded and began providing first aid. The woman died at the scene.

    THORNTON, Colo. — The victim of an attempted kidnapping this week in Thornton told police she was grabbed from behind as she walked home and squeezed so tightly that she "could not breathe," according to an arrest affidavit from the Thornton Police Department. Steven Houseman was arrested Tuesday at Thornton High School in connection with the attempted kidnapping, which happened around 11 a.m. on Monday as she walked near Thornton Middle School.

    DENVER — A man convicted of murder and other charges for the killing of East Colfax community activist Ma Kaing will be sentenced Friday afternoon. In February, Lu Reh was convicted of first-degree murder and multiple counts of attempted murder in connection with the death of Kaing, who was shot and killed by a stray bullet on July 15, 2022, in the 1300 block of North Xenia Street. Bullets fired from the nearby New Freedom Park struck Kaing, who was putting groceries away.

    JEFFERSON COUNTY, Colo. — A second person will be sentenced Friday morning in connection with the 2023 death of a woman who was killed when a large rock was thrown through her windshield and struck her in the head. Zachary Kwak, now 20, faces between 20 and 32 years in prison under the terms of a plea agreement. Last May, he pleaded guilty to first-degree assault, second-degree assault, and attempted second-degree assault. Thirteen counts were dismissed.
