AURORA, Colo. — Aurora Police are providing an update Thursday afternoon related to a fatal shooting by an officer at a parking lot near Denver International Airport earlier this month. They scheduled a news conference for 3 p.m. to talk about the shooting, which happened around 5:30 p.m. on May 12 in the 19900 block of East 56th Avenue. Officers initially responded to The Parking Spot - an off-site parking lot near DIA - after a report about a suspicious person.

DENVER — There's a new housing unit at the Denver detention center that's specifically designed to support veterans by providing a structured environment that fosters rehabilitation, personal growth, and successful reintegration back into the community. The Denver Sheriff Department unveiled the Housing Unit for Military Veterans Wednesday morning. As part of the renovation, the unit got new paint and graphics of each branch of the military.

ADAMS COUNTY, Colo. — A man who shot an Adams County deputy, who was saved by his ballistic vest, was sentenced Tuesday to decades in the Department of Corrections. Danny Martinez was convicted in March in relation to the 2023 shooting of the deputy, who was shot in the abdomen but had no internal injuries due to his vest. He was found guilty of attempted second-degree murder, first-degree assault of a peace officer, motor vehicle theft, vehicular eluding, and leaving the scene of an accident.

PUEBLO, Colo. — A man with a lengthy criminal history is accused of forcing his way into a woman's vehicle in Aurora after she had stopped for a crash. He then drove her around inside that vehicle for several hours – all the way to a town south of Pueblo – the Pueblo County Sheriff's Office said on Tuesday. Shane McSwane faces multiple charges, including kidnapping, motor vehicle theft, robbery, menacing, and unlawful sexual contact.

BRIGHTON, Colo. — A 52-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a deadly stabbing earlier this month in Brighton that was the result of an argument over a cellphone, court documents say. Johnny Jose Moreno was arrested Friday by Aurora Police. He faces a charge of first-degree murder related to a stabbing that occurred on May 15 at a residence in the 3000 block of Bridge Street.
