Massive pipes drawing concern from Crown Heights residents

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — The Crown Heights neighborhood in Wichita floods when it rains, and because of that, it now has a different issue. KSN talked to people living in the neighborhood about their concerns. A stack of what appears to be large pipes is blocking the intersection of Old Manor and Douglas. It’s all part of the Bleckley Drainage Project. Mary Peirce has lived in Crown Heights for almost 10 years.

HAYS, Kan. (KSNW) – Eight people were killed and 46 others were hospitalized in March after a massive pile-up involving 71 vehicles on Interstate 70 during a sudden dust storm. On Wednesday, 10 troopers with the Kansas Highway Patrol were honored for their efforts in responding to the catastrophic event. The crash occurred on March 14 as high winds kicked up blinding dust across western Kansas.

HALSTEAD, Kan. (KSNW) – An ultra runner is taking a 2,800-mile trek nationwide to raise awareness for multiple sclerosis. Her halfway point is Halstead, Kansas. KSN met with Betsy Mueller, who is originally from Wisconsin. She says MS is an autoimmune disease that affects the central nervous system. Betsy received the diagnosis in August 2021. A few years later, the idea of running across the country was born.

One of the seven is Kiah Duggins, a Wichita native, killed on Flight 5342. The nonprofit celebrated Kiah’s life and the positive contributions she continues to make in Wichita. Kiah’s father, Maurice Duggins, says this recognition is a big honor for his daughter.

This free garage sale started back in November, with only about a quarter of the items. Since then, she said it became very big very fast. The “sale” began with a small idea and blossomed. Fourth-grade teacher Savannah Caton saw a need at the school.

Colby woman suffers seizure on the road, urges self advocacy

COLBY, Kan. (KSNW) — A terrifying situation for a Colby woman who had a seizure, the result of a large brain tumor, while driving. KSN talked to her and shared her message with others. Hailey Hartung’s tumor in her brain was large after she was admitted to the hospital. She says this is what caused her seizure while driving to Colorado for a friend’s bridal shower this month. Despite a terrifying situation, she has a message of hope for others. Hailey’s seizure on April 6 is the first she’s ever had.
