(WHP) — The lives of many in the York community were forever changed when a gunman took hostages and opened fire inside UPMC Memorial Hospital on Feb. 22—and it all happened in less than two hours. West York Borough Police Officer Andrew Duarte was killed in the line of duty responding to the incident, which also hospitalized two other officers and three members of hospital staff. YORK COUNTY, Pa. (WHP) — Groundbreaking is set to take place for a memorial honoring fallen Officer Andrew Duarte in West York. It has now been more than two months since the tragic death of West York police officer Duarte. He was killed while responding to an active shooting at UPMC Hospital West Manchester Township. Across from the police station, a memorial with park benches, a plaque, a Thin Blue Line Flag and a tree planted directly in the center will honor Officer Duarte.

DAUPHIN COUNTY, Pa. (WHP) — It was a nail-biter for the Hershey Trojans Friday evening as they played in the State Championship at the Giant Center for the first time in the school’s history. The Trojans were up at half-time, 44 to 37, but Neumann-Goretti turned it on in the third and fourth quarters, finishing the game on top with a final score of 85 to 71. Megan Gherrity is a Pre-K teacher and mom of two students. It’s an industry that is unfortunately looked at as still just babysitters. I think until that perception changes and people really realize that early childhood teachers are teachers in the most formative years," Gherrity says.
