The Old Town Arts Festival, which made a comeback in 2024 after a short break interrupted over two decades in Swindon’s calendar, began on June 1.     An air ambulance responded at the scene (Image: Thames Valley Air Ambulance) Nine people were rushed to hospital after a boat fire closed a river near Swindon. Eyewitnesses reported seeing a large emergency service response around the River Thames at Lechlade shortly before noon on Saturday, May 31, including multiple air ambulances. Wiltshire Police has since confirmed that it was called to a fire on a residential boat in the area, attending alongside paramedics and firefighters.

The fifteenth Doctor Ncuti Gatwa bid goodbye to the show after Saturday’s finale when he stepped down from the iconic role. His replacement appears to be none other than Swindon-born Billie Piper after the final scene saw the Doctor regenerate into her.

    4 1/1 Wiltshire residents will be treated to the sight of the Red Arrows flying over the county twice in two days. The iconic aerobatic display team soared through the county’s skies on Saturday, May 31, while in transit between RAF Brize Norton and Exeter Airport. The recognisable aircrafts were heading south for the English Riviera Airshow and were visible over Broad Hinton, just south of Swindon, shortly before 3pm.

    The Aurora Borealis and a meteor shower in the New Forest. (Image: Hang Ross.) The Northern Lights could be visible over Wiltshire tonight after a red alert was issued. Aurora Watch UK, a group of space physicists at Lancaster University that monitor the chance of possible auroras in the UK, issued the red alert at around 7am on Sunday, June 1. This alert means that an aurora is likely to be visible by both the naked eye and camera from anywhere in the UK.
