BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — A time of joy and celebration turned into a nightmare for a family during the 2023 winter holiday season, when a man with a gun attempted to carjack them after they left a nail salon near the Park at River Walk. A Good Samaritan intervened and the would-be carjacker, David Amaya, was captured by police. Amaya, 46, was found guilty Tuesday on all charges: two counts of assault with a gun, attempted robbery, attempted carjacking and possession of drug paraphernalia.

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — A man accused of stabbing and wounding four family members in 2023 will be examined by a clinical psychologist to determine if he’s mentally competent to stand trial. Judge John W. Lua on Wednesday suspended criminal proceedings against Daniel Keith Johnson after defense counsel said they no longer believe Johnson is competent. A hearing is scheduled July 9 to go over the doctor’s findings.

(KGET) — A 71-year-old man accused of sharing child pornography was arraigned Monday on two felony charges, according to court records. Neal Stuart Pendleton is being held at Lerdo Jail on $100,000 bail and has a preliminary hearing scheduled June 30, records show.

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — An 18-year-old man on Tuesday pleaded not guilty to murder charges in connection with a double homicide at a marijuana dispensary in Bakersfield, becoming the third and final adult suspect in the case to enter not guilty pleas. Terrance Thompson is charged with two counts of murder, robbery and gang participation. He’s being held without bail and is due back in court June 30.
