The Reign are back at Lumen Field after a nearly two-week break for the FIFA women’s international window. Seattle will welcome the Orlando Pride, who won the NWSL Shield and league championship last year. Prep for the heavyweight match was impacted by the break. Seattle saw 11 players receive call-ups, which, when coupled with injuries, dwindled numbers for training. Reign coach Laura Harvey only had Friday with the bulk of the team.

RENTON - Injuries to Sounders designated player Albert Rusnák and first-choice defender Alex Roldan may not be as concerning as thought when both had to be replaced last week against San Diego FC. Rusnák left the match at halftime due to an adductor injury he's been managing since the end of last year. The midfielder's had cortisone shots as part of his treatment in the past. Roldan suffered a quad injury and was subbed off in the 34th minute of the 3-0 loss to SDFC at Snapdragon Stadium.

The Sounders knew they were in trouble 80 seconds into their debut match at Snapdragon Stadium. And it only got worse. San Diego FC, the MLS's newest club, pelted Seattle with three goals in the opening half to leave the Sounders bruised by a 3-0 loss on Saturday. It's the first time the Sounders have lost the initial meeting with an expansion team since a 1-0 loss against Los Angeles FC in 2018. LAFC swelled to become a problem for the Sounders and California may have birthed another.

RENTON – The Sounders are headed to a new MLS city as they continue their three-game road trip. San Diego FC is in its inaugural season as the league’s 30th club. While the MLS version of the Sounders haven’t played in San Diego, the club has made the trip when it was part of the North American Soccer League (NASL). And Sounders coach Brian Schmetzer was a recognizable face in the city in the 1980s. In 1984, Schmetzer signed to play for the San Diego Sockers in the then-Major Indoor Soccer League.
