The first day of protests at the Allen County Courthouse was held on Friday, May 29, 2020, in response to the killing of George Floyd.

Indiana (WPTA) - The Indiana State Board of Animal Health (BOAH) announced on Thursday that the state’s highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI), or bird flu, outbreak has been declared over. BOAH’s report shows the state was declared free from active bird flu cases as of Tuesday, May 27. The department’s dashboard shows the last case was reported on May 2 at a non-commercial farm in Porter County.

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) - One day after Purdue University Fort Wayne (PFW) announced employee layoffs due to budget cuts, the university is now discontinuing two athletic programs to help save costs. On Thursday, PFW Chancellor Ron Elsenbaumer said because of ongoing financial challenges, the school is cutting $6 million from its annual operating budget and is eliminating 45 positions.

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) - The Fort Wayne Zoo held a grand opening for its ‘reimagined’ Coastal Cove exhibit on Friday morning, welcoming a new species to the beloved zoo. For the first time, the zoo has a harbor seal, Ronan, who joins their California sea lions, Cassandra and Valkyrie, in the shared Coastal Cove space.

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) - Purdue University Fort Wayne’s (PFW) Chancellor Ron Elsenbaumer announced on Thursday afternoon that the university is eliminating 45 positions, effective immediately, as it grapples with financial challenges. Elsenbaumer set a letter addressed to faculty, staff and students saying the school is navigating “difficult financial terrain” due to diminished state and federal support, increased competition, and uncertainty about future enrollment numbers.
