A Grand Island man who allegedly threatened a woman Monday morning drove away from a traffic stop and was later found by police after his car had been found and towed away. Police say Anneudis Arias Pena, 31, trespassed shortly after 9 a.m. at 1322 Sheridan Place, where the door was shut but not locked. Arias Pena allegedly made threats in a menacing manner to at least one of the people inside. The victim was a 49-year-old woman. Arias Pena was no longer on the scene when officers arrived.

A burglar stole a little more than $300 late Tuesday or early Wednesday in concession and admission money from Ryder Park. The crime was reported to Grand Island police at 11:18 a.m. Wednesday. Police found pry marks on a door. The theft is under investigation.

Grand Island police Tuesday arrested Gabriel Contreras, the suspect in a Sunday night assault in downtown Grand Island that seriously injured a 35-year-old man. At about 9:40 p.m. Sunday, police responded to an assault near McKinney's Irish Pub, 123 W. Third St. The victim sustained a brain bleed. Police knew who the suspect was and arrested him at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in his front yard, Grand Island Police Division Chief Dean Elliott said. Contreras, 43, was arrested for first-degree assault.

A $20,000 budget increase for Heartland CASA of Grand Island was conditionally approved Tuesday by the Hall County Commission. Heartland CASA executive director Erin Howe asked for the increase, which would bring the county’s support to $70,000. Howe pointed out that federal and state cuts are having an impact and stressed the importance of the program. CASA stands for Court Appointed Special Advocates. Heartland CASA served 119 children in 2024.

Three public hearings drew concerns from neighboring landowners at Tuesday’s Hall County Commission meeting. At two of the hearings, neighbors were mainly concerned about water runoff. Following the first hearing, the commission approved a zoning change that paves the way for a 126-acre housing development near Doniphan. Built by BLKG LLC, Prairie View Subdivision will include 33 single-family homes.
