Seedling Mile Elementary School, which is closing at the end of this school year, will host a community open house on Saturday, April 26. Grand Island Public Schools invites the community to the open house, which will honor the school’s legacy. The event runs from 2 to 4 p.m. Attendees may come and go. “This open house will provide a chance for former students, staff, families and community members to connect, share stories and relive the memories made at this close-knit, one-unit building.

An automated license plate reader helped Grand Island police locate a Porsche that had been stolen from Utah. The driver and a passenger were found inside the car Wednesday morning, starting to fall asleep, in the parking lot of the south Walmart. Grand Island police have nine license plate reading cameras scattered around the city. The solar-powered readers are made by a company called Flock Safety.

After reducing its food box distribution schedule earlier this month, Hope Harbor said the community’s response has left the organization “overflowing with gratitude.”Hope Harbor made the difficult decision to reduce food box distribution to every three months rather than monthly. A rapid increase in need had emptied the shelter’s shelves faster than ever before and exhausted its Community Assistance food budget much earlier than expected.
