The ACAP (Alabama Comprehensive Assessment Program) reading scores are used to determine if students are reading at grade level and for promotion to the next grade. BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — The Birmingham Water Works Board has taken decisive action to terminate its $3 million contract with longtime legal counsel Parnell Thompson LLC. The board's directors voted unanimously to void the agreement with attorney Mark Parnell, which had been approved and signed just as the previous board was ousted by a legislative act. "We're a new board, so much controversy, so decided we must start with a clean slate," said Interim Board Chairman Tommy Hudson.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — The National Weather Service confirmed three tornadoes touched down in Alabama during severe thunderstorms from the night of May 20 into the early morning of May 21, 2025. The storms caused significant damage across Central Alabama, with the most notable impact in Calhoun County. The Saks tornado in Calhoun County was rated an EF1, with estimated peak winds of 95 mph. It began at 11:35 p.m. CDT on May 20 and traveled 3.51 miles before dissipating at 11:40 p.m. CDT.
