Here’s a timeline of the lawmaker’s political career, and how he got to the gavel. Dustin Burrows was first elected to the Texas House of Representatives in November of 2014, after Charles Perry left the district 83 position for the state senate. He defeated democrat Max R. Tarbox for the job.

LUBBOCK, Texas — Texas State Representative Dustin Burrows of Lubbock filed to run for speaker of the house in the eleventh hour. The house is scheduled to meet at the Capitol to select their candidate for speaker by secret ballot on Saturday. A spokesman for Burrows confirmed he joined a list on Thursday night of nine others vying for the job. But Friday morning, Beaumont republican and current speaker Dade Phelan withdrew his bid for re-election.
