    JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The countdown is on for a new fire chief in Jacksonville. On July 1, a new chief of the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department (JFRD) will be announced by the mayor’s office. The current fire chief, Keith Powers, announced an early retirement in May. He will be leaving on June 30. Lots of current and former firefighters have applied for top spot. The deadline to apply was May 30, and the city decided to hire from within.

Specifically, the Saharan Air Layer can suppress the development of tropical cyclones. The layer has characteristics of warm, dry air with strong winds. It can also suppress cloud development and storms.

Regardless of your swimming ability a current can quickly pull you into the ocean and it can be deadly. Swim near lifeguard stands or stay out of the ocean if you can not swim. SUNDAY EVENING FORECAST Temperatures will drop into the low 70s and upper 60s with mostly cloudy skies as winds shift from the south and southwest. Rain is not in the forecast.
