A cougar was spotted on Little Mountain in Chilliwack this week, according to the WildSafeBC Fraser Valley's community co-ordinator Lori Roberts. "The City of Chilliwack has asked that I let you know there is a cougar on Little Mountain near the water tower," Roberts said in a post from WildSafeBC. It's not usual for hikers or walkers to see wildlife in Chilliwack's hillside and forested areas. There are a number of strategies available for citizens to keep safe. "Keep your backpack on.

Traffic is about to ramp up at city hall as Chilliwack homeowners pay their property taxes before the July 2 deadline. City of Chilliwack put out an online reminder on June 20 about the range of payment options available. "Skip the line and save time by paying your taxes online, through your financial institution, by mail, or in one of our two secure drop boxes available 24-hours a day outside of City Hall," according to the city notice.

Experienced hikers of the Eastern Fraser Valley are being sought to install and monitor wildlife cameras to help research grizzly bears, wolves and wolverines in remote areas. It's a BC Parks program for volunteers they describe as "dedicated citizen scientists" running from July to the end of November 2025, being co-ordinated by the Fraser Valley Conservancy (FVC), according to a post by organizers.

The City of Chilliwack's Annual Municipal Report 2024 puts the spotlight on the municipal achievements and fiscal growth made in Chilliwack, while providing a road map for the future. Comparing the Chilliwack-based stats provided in the 2023 and 2024 annual reports, there were obvious leaps made last year. For example, in building permit construction values totalled $314 million in 2024, compared to $274 million in 2023, a difference of $40 million.

Remuneration totals paid to Chilliwack mayor and council in 2024 were released by City of Chilliwack ahead of the June 17 meeting. Mayor Ken Popove earned $139,807 in remuneration, compared to $134,559 in 2023, with his expenses listed at $1,949, according to the document. The mayor's basic pay went up by 3.9 per cent.
