    Two days in Santa Fe, New Mexico, wasn’t enough time to explore all the delights, but my friend Marilyn and I made the best of the time we had. Our first stop was at the Cathedral Basilica of St. Francis of Assisi, the Patron Saint of Santa Fe, and it was exquisite to behold. Built from 1869 to 1886 under the guidance of Father John Baptiste Lamy of France, the facade of red and yellow sandstone, mined from a nearby quarry, gives visual interest.

    The manager of the Drury Hotel in Albuquerque, New Mexico, stopped by our table at breakfast and asked where we were going next. When we told her, Santa Fe, she said, “Take the Turquoise Trail instead of the main highway. It will be much more interesting.” She continued, “It winds north to Santa Fe on the east side of the Sandia Mountains. And you’ll be on the Musical Highway. Drive on the rumble strip.” That certainly piqued our curiosity.

    Albuquerque, New Mexico and the Balloon Fiesta. What could be more fun? We timed our visit to the Land of Enchantment to coincide with this colorful exciting annual event. The Drury Hotel was the perfect choice for our three-day stay. Not only do they serve a cooked-to-order breakfast, but they offer libations and a light dinner for guests. After visiting Mesa Verde Nation Park just over the border in Colorado, we drove through one hundred miles of desolate country.
