    GALVESTONAn old fish camp got a new lease on life Wednesday when it was moved by barge through Offatts Bayou to a new lot on the bay in Galveston. The Galveston Historical Foundation moved the 1945 Marshall Family Fish Camp House from its original site on Broadway near 71st Street to the new site on West Bay Road at 91st Street. “Galveston Historical Foundation is relocating this house to prevent demolition and initiate a Second Green Revival Project,” Executive Director Dwayne Jones said.

    On the eve of what would have been Jack Johnson’s 147th birthday, people on Sunday gathered at the Nia Cultural Center in Galveston to celebrate. Johnson, dubbed the “Galveston Giant,” was born on the island March 31, 1878 and became the first Black world heavy-weight boxing champion in 1908. Joe Cutchins Jr., 81, of Franklinton, North Carolina, was three-years-old when Johnson died in a car crash June 10, 1946 in his small hometown.
