The Mustangs’ and Bulldogs’ second game of a best-of-three bi-district playoff series was halted twice Friday because of lightning strikes in the area around Herrington Stadium, once in the fourth inning and again in the fifth, with the second prompting a decision to call it a night. When play was halted, Friendswood had a 2-1 lead and was about to bat in the bottom of the fifth inning.

BAYTOWNA single from an unlikely source gave Nederland a 2-1 extra-inning victory over Friendswood in Game 1 of a best-of-three Region III-5A Division II bi-district playoff series Thursday night. With one out in the bottom of the eighth, Nederland shortstop Jeziel Serrano stroked a double to the right-field corner off Friendswood reliever Caden Robertson. Bryce Ray was then given a free pass, putting runners on first and second. That brought up Jackson Lane.

The 9-3 loss puts Dickinson at 5-7 in District 24-6A action. Currently they are in fifth place with two games to play in the regular season and they trail Clear Springs by two games. LEAGUE CITYIt was the kind of game where the positives are few and far between. Clear Springs had been on a hot streak, winning three straight District 24-6A games by an aggregate score of 37-11. That all came crashing down when Deer Park came to town and recorded a 15-6 win Tuesday. The loss by Clear Springs drops the Chargers to 9-4 in-district, tied with Deer Park for second place with one league game to go.

Going into the top of the sixth inning, the Wildcats (5-2 in District 24-6A) trailed Clear Springs (also 5-2 in league play) 4-2, but they had the bags full with two outs when Hall stepped to the plate. It had been a somewhat quiet night for the senior. She singled and scored in the first inning, but she struck out and grounded out in her next two at-bats.
