MISSOURI — Missouri voters may be asked to decide the fate of abortion in the “Show Me State” for a second time. Using a series of procedural moves to end the discussion, the state Senate advanced a measure to put the question back in front of voters. Last fall, Missouri voters approved codifying abortion in the state’s constitution. Missouri’s Republican super majority has proposed modifying state law to only allow abortion in certain medical emergencies or in cases of rape or incest.

PITTSBURG, Kan. — A classroom project means a new home for some deserving animals. For the past several weeks, students in Pitt State’s “Construction Systems Technology course” have been building dog houses. The project lets the students practice skills like designing and framing structure, which some of those students will then take and teach to others, when they graduate and become teachers themselves.

JOPLIN, Mo. — Transitional housing for Joplin’s homeless population is one step closer to reality. At a meeting this afternoon, the Joplin Planning and Zoning committee gave approval to “Vita Nova Village”, a project bringing up to 20 tiny homes to a plot of land at 12th and South Byers. Vita Nova is a non-profit, focused on providing the homeless a private living space while assisting with employment and education, and, eventually, a home of their own.

JOPLIN, Mo. — Making sure those responsible for keeping us healthy know they’re not forgotten—that was the theme at Freeman Health System today. To celebrate National Hospital Week 2025, every Freeman employee was celebrated today. This cookout saw 45-hundred hamburgers and hotdogs grilled. Hospital administrators say while we may think of the doctors and nurses, they’re just one part of a team dedicated to getting us back on our feet.
