JOPLIN, Mo. — We’re in the midst of the “100 Deadliest Days of Summer” a time when the demand for a life-saving donation spikes – but the supply drops. “Do something for my fellow man,” said Phyllis Petty, blood donor. She says living in a volatile world makes her feel compelled to do something. “You know, I feel like God blessed me with good health, and I might as well pass it on to someone else,” said Petty.

NEOSHO, Mo. — A southwest Missouri woman is honored for her dedication to the community. This morning, Donna Wilson was celebrated for her work at the ‘Help Center’ food pantry in Neosho. As part of that celebration, Wilson was presented with a senior citizen’s volunteer service award from the state capitol. Wilson has been volunteering at the pantry since 1998 and became the director in 2002.

JOPLIN, Mo. — Summer school students learn about jobs they may have someday without even realizing it. Joplin’s Cecil Floyd Elementary hosted a Health Careers Day for about 50 5th graders today. Ten different departments from Freeman Health System were on hand, giving the kids a glimpse into what those professionals do.

(KODE & KSN) — A southeast Kansas childcare agency gets a big boost courtesy of the state. Grow at Eden, a childcare provider supporting services in Labette, Allen, Crawford and Neosho counties has been awarded a ‘Child Care Zone’ grant by the Kansas Department of Health and Environment. ‘Child Care Zones’ are defined as at least two counties with specific childcare needs.
